The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, continues to offer opportunities for educators worldwide. Established in 1946 through legislation introduced by former U.S. Senator William Fulbright, the program has facilitated over 400,000 participants known as "Fulbrighters."
Educators are nominated for the Fulbright TEA based on their experience, training, and leadership skills. The final selection is made by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB), an independent board appointed by the President.
Selected teachers will engage in graduate-level seminars at a U.S. university, observe and co-teach classes in secondary schools, participate in an online learning community, and partake in cultural activities. Upon returning home, they will share their experiences with local communities.
The program includes weekly seminars focusing on teaching methodologies and instructional technology. Participants will also complete a practicum of at least 40 hours with a partner teacher in a nearby secondary school.
Applications for the program are due by February 23, 2025. The Spring 2026 cohort begins its six-week program in late January 2026, while the Fall 2026 cohort starts in September 2026.
IREX handles international travel arrangements for participants, who must adhere to specific travel guidelines during their stay. Housing is provided near host universities without accommodations for dependents.
Participants receive maintenance allowances to cover personal expenses during their stay.
