The United States has expressed sorrow over the recent loss of life during protests in Colombia. In a statement, Deputy Spokesperson Jalina Porter conveyed condolences to the families and friends of those affected.

Porter emphasized that citizens in democratic nations have the right to protest peacefully, stating, "Violence and vandalism is an abuse of that right." The statement also called for restraint by public forces to prevent further casualties.

The U.S. acknowledged Colombia's commitment to investigating police excesses and addressing human rights violations. Additionally, support was reiterated for the Colombian government's efforts to resolve the situation through political dialogue.
