The United States has expressed approval for recent measures taken by the European Union and its member states to address Russia's actions against Ukraine. A resolution passed by the European Parliament on December 12 highlights Ukraine's crucial role in Europe's energy supply network and criticizes the Kremlin-supported Nord Stream 2 pipeline, labeling it as a political project. The U.S. has urged Germany to consider the security concerns of neighboring countries that may be affected by this pipeline.
In addition, the European Council's unanimous decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia has been welcomed by the United States. The EU maintains that Russia's attack on Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea on November 25 was a breach of international law. The EU is also making efforts to support areas in Ukraine that have been adversely impacted by Russian activities in the Sea of Azov.
The United States remains committed to holding Russia accountable for its actions and intends to continue collaborating with European partners and allies to maintain a unified stance against Kremlin aggression.
"Robert Palladino, Deputy Spokesperson," stated: "The United States welcomes recent steps by the EU and its Member States to hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine."
"We urge Germany to heed the concerns of the many neighbors whose security will be damaged by this pipeline."
"We support the EU position that Russia’s November 25th attack on Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea constituted a violation of international law and welcome the EU’s efforts to provide support to areas of Ukraine negatively affected by Russian aggression in the Sea of Azov."
"The United States will continue to hold Russia accountable for its actions, and we will continue to work with European partners and Allies to present a unified front against the Kremlin’s aggression."
