The U.S. Consulate in Kolkata recently hosted Mandy Jenkins, an American social news consultant and digital media trainer, from September 2 to 4. During her visit, Jenkins conducted several social media workshops at the American Center.
Jenkins began her India tour in Kolkata, engaging with high school, college, and university students and teachers. Her sessions focused on how social media has transformed the media industry and traditional newsroom roles. She also connected virtually with students from Tezpur University in Assam and Mizoram University via Google Hangout.
In a session with Kolkata's working journalists from both English and vernacular print media, Jenkins shared insights into effective social media tools for advanced news gathering and crowd-sourcing content. She highlighted the importance of social media as a resource for activism and awareness during a workshop with local NGOs.
Jenkins concluded her visit with an event hosted by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the American Center. This session demonstrated how new media can aid businesses in promoting their corporate social responsibility programs.
Mandy Jenkins is scheduled to continue her tour in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
