Phillip A. Min has officially commenced his role as the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai as of September 18, 2014. With a career spanning 27 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, Min has accumulated extensive experience across various global postings, including South America, Europe, East Asia, and South Asia. His previous assignments have taken him to cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Warsaw, Seoul, Tokyo, Bogota, and Karachi. In Washington D.C., he has been involved with Consular Affairs and the Office of Japanese Affairs.
Min expressed enthusiasm about his new assignment: “This is an exciting time to arrive in South India and for U.S.-India relations as we explore together new opportunities to deepen and broaden our strategic partnership. I am thrilled to return to South Asia and I look forward to exploring the rich cultural diversity of the people of South India.”
Educationally, Min holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and pursued graduate studies in East Asian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. He also earned a Master of Science degree in National Security Policy from the National War College located in Washington D.C. His contributions have been recognized through three Superior Honor Awards from the State Department.
Born near Washington D.C., Min considers both New Jersey and Northern Virginia as his home base within the United States. He is married to Eun Young Lee, who is a classical pianist.
