Ambassador Vinai Thummalapally, the Executive Director of SelectUSA, is set to embark on a five-city tour in India from September 18-24, 2014. The visit aims to promote Indian investment in the United States and raise awareness about U.S. services available to Indian companies.
The ambassador's itinerary includes stops in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mumbai, and Bangalore. During these visits, he will engage with business leaders, potential investors, trade associations, and journalists. Discussions will focus on how SelectUSA can facilitate connections for investors and clarify federal regulations.
"India is an important focus country for SelectUSA," said Ambassador Thummalapally. "President Obama and Secretary Pritzker have made investment facilitation a priority because we understand that investment is mutually beneficial."
The tour concludes in Bangalore with an investment fair featuring presentations by service providers experienced in foreign investments into the U.S., as well as representatives from various U.S. state economic development organizations discussing investment opportunities.
Ambassador Thummalapally will also discuss the upcoming second SelectUSA Investment Summit scheduled for March 23-24 in Washington D.C. The first summit took place in late 2013 with participation from President Obama and other top speakers. It attracted attendees from 60 countries including a significant delegation from India.
SelectUSA was established by President Obama in 2011 within the U.S. Department of Commerce to promote business investment into the United States by serving as a central point of contact for investors.
In October 2013, the first-ever SelectUSA Summit was hosted by President Obama and saw participation from over 1,300 people including business executives from around the world along with officials from across the United States.
