The U.S. research vessel Roger Revelle, operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and part of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System, recently docked in Chennai from June 14th to 16th. The ship's visit marks a collaborative effort between American and Indian scientists to explore ocean science in the Bay of Bengal.
Acting Consul General Nicholas Manring from the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai highlighted the significance of such visits. He stated, “Ship visits represent an important opportunity to promote cooperation and enhance peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and they demonstrate the United States’ commitment to regional partners while also fostering our growing bilateral relationship with India.”
Manring further emphasized the value placed on scientific partnerships with India, noting that these relationships are crucial for promoting peace, security, and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
Frank Herr, Head of the Ocean Research Department, described this event as a significant milestone in scientific collaboration between the two nations. He expressed hopes for enduring cooperation that could lead to better forecasting of annual monsoons. Herr also anticipates valuable scientific discoveries and innovations resulting from this joint academic endeavor.
