The United States Mission to the United Nations has announced its delegation for the 68th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), scheduled from March 11 to 22, 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The primary focus of CSW68 is "Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective." The session will also revisit conclusions from its sixty-third session on "Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls."
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, representing the United States at the UN, alongside Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Geeta Rao Gupta, will lead as Heads of Delegation. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield is set to deliver a national statement on behalf of the U.S. during CSW's high-level week on March 12.
The delegation includes senior government advisers such as Jennifer Klein, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Gender Policy Council; Ambassador Lisa Carty, Representative to the Economic and Social Council of the UN; Rachel Vogelstein, Special Assistant to the President; Rina Amiri, Special Envoy for Afghan Women; Jamille Bigio from USAID; and Wendy Chun-Hoon from the U.S. Department of Labor.
In total, 20 government advisors from various U.S. agencies are part of this year's delegation focusing on advancing gender equality. Additionally, three non-government advisers will join: Karina from The Girl Scouts as a Youth Leader; Elise Young from Counterpart International; and Yana Watson Kakar from CDPQ Global.
