Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Representative to the United Nations, held a meeting with representatives from non-governmental organizations based in Sudan. These organizations are actively providing humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan.

During the meeting, NGO representatives provided Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield with an update on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. They reported that approximately 18 million Sudanese are currently experiencing severe food insecurity. The representatives also highlighted the significant risks faced by both those in need of aid and those delivering it.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her concern about the worsening situation in Sudan and acknowledged the challenging work being done by these NGOs in such a conflict-ridden environment.

The United States has been identified as the largest donor to humanitarian efforts in Sudan, contributing over $968 million since September 2023.
