Yesterday, the U.S. Government announced a $1.4 million grant to Harpur Memorial Hospital in Menouf, Menoufia. The announcement was made by U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Goldberger, who highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Americans and Egyptians to enhance health services in Egypt.
“Americans and Egyptians have a legacy of working together to promote the health and well-being of the Egyptian people,” said Goldberger during his visit to the hospital. “We are honored to continue our longstanding partnership through this grant.”
The current outpatient clinic at Harpur Memorial Hospital can serve 100 patients daily but often accommodates up to 500 patients each day. The grant, provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (USAID/ASHA) program, will finance the construction of a two-story outpatient building. This expansion aims to address the growing demand for services and improve patient care.
USAID Mission Director Dr. Mary C. Ott stated that USAID/ASHA awarded 34 grants across 24 countries this year, totaling $23 million. Since its inception in 1947, the program has supported educational and healthcare institutions in 80 countries, aiding 270 establishments globally.
For over three decades, USAID has collaborated with Egypt to upgrade medical facilities, train health professionals, conduct research, educate on health issues, and modernize health policies.
