U.S. envoy McGurk discusses anti-ISIL efforts with Egyptian officials

Today, Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, held meetings in Cairo with top Egyptian officials. The purpose of these discussions was to enhance cooperation in countering ISIL.

During his visit, McGurk met with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Assistant Defense Minister Mohamed El Keshky. These talks focused on the coalition's current efforts to weaken and ultimately defeat ISIL. Additionally, McGurk sought to identify opportunities for the United States and Egypt to work more closely together against this threat. He also exchanged perspectives on effectively countering the threat from ISIL’s regional affiliates.
