Secretary Tillerson recently held a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fatteh al-Sisi in Cairo. The discussion focused on the mutual commitment of the United States and Egypt to combat terrorism in all its forms, particularly through their efforts as part of the global coalition against ISIS.

The meeting, described as productive by Spokesperson Heather Nauert, also touched upon plans to initiate a new joint strategic dialogue between the two nations. This dialogue aims to enhance the existing strong ties between the countries, including economic and commercial connections.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to work together on various issues of mutual concern.

"Secretary Tillerson had a productive meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fatteh al-Sisi Monday in Cairo," Nauert stated. "They discussed our two countries’ shared commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms, and particularly to continue our efforts as members of the global coalition to defeat ISIS."

"They also agreed to pursue a new joint strategic dialogue and enhance the already strong ties between the United States and Egypt, including economic and commercial links," Nauert added. "In the context of those strong ties, the Secretary and the President agreed to continue to work to resolve a number of issues of mutual concern."
