Ambassador Robert Jackson and Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh have signed the Security Governance Initiative (SGI) Joint Country Action Plan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The plan, recommended by the SGI Senior Steering Committee, serves as a roadmap for a partnership under the initiative.
The collaboration between Ghanaian and U.S. experts has focused on three key areas: maritime security, border management, and cybersecurity and cybercrime. Ambassador Jackson acknowledged the contributions of National Security Coordinator Yaw Donkor and his team in this process.
"The recommendations provided by this document will inform SGI program design and implementation," said Ambassador Jackson. Following the signing, efforts will begin to develop activities supporting these focus areas.
The Joint Country Action Plan is seen as a vital component of improving security sector governance in Ghana. It aims to enhance the government's ability to provide security and justice effectively.
"We thank the Government and people of Ghana for your commitment to partnering with the United States in pursuit of stronger and more accountable security institutions," stated Ambassador Jackson.
