Erik Martini, Consul General | U.S. Embassy in Ecuador

The United States Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, processes official visas for diplomats and government officials. These include A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, and C-3 visas. They are intended for individuals traveling to or transiting the U.S. in an official capacity on behalf of their national governments or designated international organizations.

To enter the United States for official duties, all applicants must secure the appropriate visa beforehand. The embassy handles applications from Monday to Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., excluding holidays. For G4 visa applicants specifically, a request letter from the relevant international organization must be sent directly to the Consular Section before submitting the application.

Applicants need several documents including a valid passport, a recent photograph with specific dimensions as per guidelines available online, Form DS-160 completed online and printed with a barcode confirmation page, and a diplomatic note or request letter detailing essential information about the applicant's travel purpose and details.

Once submitted, applications are reviewed by the Consular Section. If complete and correct, visas can be collected within three to four business days after submission. Applicants are advised to apply at least ten business days before their planned travel due to potential delays.

Official travel visa applicants are exempt from application fees. However, non-official travel purposes like tourism or business require following standard procedures including paying applicable fees and scheduling interviews.

Holders of diplomatic passports enjoy some exceptions; they may submit non-official visa applications without appointments during specified hours and might also be exempt from fees depending on U.S. immigration law determinations.

For all applicants over 14 years old applying for non-diplomatic purposes using diplomatic passports, personal appearances at the Consular Section for fingerprinting and interviews are mandatory unless otherwise specified.

Additionally, security measures restrict items such as purses or bags inside the Consular Section premises.
