India has initiated a safeguard investigation concerning non-alloy and alloy steel flat products. The announcement, made on January 6, 2025, invites all interested parties to submit their views within 15 days from the notice date of December 19, 2024. Responses should be directed to the Investigating Authority via specified email addresses.
The purpose of a safeguard investigation is to assess whether increased imports are causing or threatening serious injury to domestic industries. Throughout this process, importers, exporters, and other stakeholders can present evidence and viewpoints and respond to others' presentations.
According to the World Trade Organization (WTO), a member country may impose temporary import restrictions if it is determined that increased imports are indeed causing or threatening significant harm.
Further details about the investigation can be found in document G/SG/N/6/IND/50.
