Overlord, a Web3 gaming company, has been selected to partner with Spotify to participate in a pilot program of token-enabled playlists.

In addition to Overlord, Spotify selected Fluf, Moonbirds and Kingship to take part in the three-month testing period. The partnership will allow holders of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to connect their wallets and access exclusive playlists on the popular music streaming service.

"We’ve been selected as one of Spotify’s partners in a new pilot," Overlord announced in a Feb. 22 Twitter post.

According to the tweet, the partnership includes an "exclusive pilot of their token-enabled playlists" and will launch "with a holder-curated playlist." The program is only available to Android users in the U.S., U.K, Australia, New Zealand and Germany at this time. People who hold Overlord's lizard-themed Creepz NFTs can access the exclusive Invasion playlist by connecting their Web3 wallets to Spotify.

"This is just the beginning of our audio adventure," Overlord said.

The NFT band Kingship said in a tweet on the same day that they "strive to ALWAYS be at the forefront of technology and music. Now, we're taking this commitment a step further by launching a brand-new token-enabled playlist with @Spotify! This is a special curated playlist exclusively for KINGSHIP Key Card (NFT) holders."

Users with a KINGSHIP Key Card NFT can unlock the playlist, which will feature songs by Queen, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg and Led Zeppelin.

"This is a special moment," the group said in a tweet. "We're all about unlocking real value for our community and pushing the boundaries of music and blockchain, and having our holders be at the forefront of this space."

This partnership is not the first time the global streaming platform has experimented with NFTs. Last May, Spotify, which has more than 489 million users, enabled a small group of artists to promote NFTs to listeners through their Spotify profiles. Artists who participated included Steve Aoki and The Wombats, CoinDesk reported.

NFTs are unique digital tokens that are stored on a blockchain and can't be duplicated. Rolling Stone reported last year that NFTs have the potential to transform the music industry, as artists can create NFTs of their songs to sell or gift to fans in a marketplace. Artists can also use NFTs to act as tickets for live events or to give fans exclusive access to certain content.

"NFTs are becoming a unique way to harness the potential of this growing blockchain technology as artists strive for success in their careers," Rolling Stone said.
