A Uruguayan-based company, dLocal, a technology-first payments platform, announced Jan. 4 plans to collaborate with Arcos Dorados, the world's largest McDonald's franchisee.

As Arcos Dorados expands food delivery service in Uruguay, dLocal's technology will be used to support in-app payments, according to a report from Business Wire.

Magdalena Gonzalez Victorica, chief technology officer at Arcos Dorados, said the company chose dLocal because they will offer customers convenience when ordering.

“With the growth of the digital economy and aligned with our ambition to lead the so-called digital race, we are always looking into new ways to offer an easy, reliable digital experience for our customers,” Victoria said. “Having dLocal’s platform and local payments services expertise in our restaurants will allow us to provide a higher level of convenience, hence capturing the opportunities allowed by the growing food delivery business.”

Customers will be able to use credit and debit cards to purchase food, the report stated.

Michel Golffed, senior vice-president of growth at dLocal, said the company is honored to be aligned with Arcos Dorados.

“We are proud to serve as a trusted payments partner to support Arcos Dorados,” Golffed said. “High-growth companies like Arcos Dorados depend on dLocal’s reliable payments infrastructure to support their expansion, and we are dedicated to ensuring a smooth payment process for app users so they can promise quality to the customers they serve.”

Through dLocal's platform companies can take payments, send pay-outs, settle funds globally and “issue white label prepaid virtual and physical debit cards in local currencies,” the report stated.

Arcos Dorados operates over 2,000 McDonald’s restaurants and employs over 90,000 people in 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries and territories, according to Business Wire.
