Roku TV was named as the top-selling smart TV streaming and operating service in the United States for the second year in a row following new partnerships and a brand expansion in Mexico.

Data collected by NPD’s Weekly Retail Tracking Service from January 2021 through December 2021 concluded that the Roku Operating System (OS) was the No. 1 smart TV OS sold in the U.S. last year, according to Business Wire.

“We are excited to collaborate with Roku and equip our new HD and 4K UHD TVs with their award-winning Operating System (OS),” said Jim Sanduski, president of Sharp Home Electronics Company of America, according to Business Wire. “Pairing our long-standing heritage in display technology with Roku’s best-in-class, easy-to-use interface is a winning combination for our consumers.”

This achievement also coincides with Roku's newly announced partnership with Sharp provides consumers with Sharp Roku TV models across the country, which will feature new hardware alongside Roku's award-winning OS. The new Sharp Roku TV will feature a customizable home screen, compatibility with the three major voice ecosystems, and access to thousands of channels including over 200 live TV channels, according to Business Wire. Further details regarding the Sharp Roku TV model's availability and specs will be announced as the year progresses.

“Sharp, like Roku, is an award-winning, household known brand and we look forward to a productive partnership together in the U.S.,” said Mustafa Ozgen, GM & SVP of Account Acquisitions, Roku, according to Business Wire. “We both firmly believe that the power and ease of use of Roku TV, combined with the Sharp brand promise of ‘simply better living’ makes an appealing combination for customers looking for a great TV experience.”

In addition to the partnership with Sharp, 2022 will also see the Roku TV licensing program expand into Mexico with a total of 10 brands, including the addition of Aiwa and HKPRO at the beginning of the year. The Roku TV licensing program will offer OEMs and TV brands in an easy and cost-effective way for all consumers, domestic or abroad.
