Google Cloud's recently announced partnership with a digital transformation company in Spain is good for business on the Iberian Peninsula, a company manager said in a Dec. 20, 2021, news release.

Google Cloud's new Madrid-based cloud system is scheduled to launch in 2022.

"We are proud to partner with Minsait on this joint digital sovereignty offering for public and private sector organizations across Spain," Google Cloud Spain Manager Isaac Hernández said in the release. "Innovation and accelerated digitization should come with the highest levels of security, privacy and sovereignty, which we look forward to delivering to customers under this agreement."

Minsait is a subsidiary and business unit of the Spanish information technology and defense systems company Indra Sistemas, which is based in Alcobendas, Spain.

Google and Minsait's partnership will focus on providing services to private and public organizations, as well as boosting digital sovereignty in Spain, according to the release.

With support of the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, the company's most sensitive data will be kept confidential.

Minsait is expected to provide support for external encryption key management, security services, cloud infrastructure management services, and local support, in addition to ongoing data center auditing, the release stated.

Google Cloud plans to offer elasticity and agility of its public and hybrid cloud based on open-source technology to enable organizations in Spain to innovate autonomously, without vendor lock-in.

The partnership also will enable Spain's public and private sector organizations to reduce their carbon footprint through Google's investments in sustainability and carbon-free energy, offering the cleanest cloud in the industry, the release stated.

Minsait and Google Cloud hope to provide cloud benefits to Spanish organizations across several sectors, including healthcare, automotive, public transportation and government agencies.

"Thanks to this collaboration with Google Cloud, we can help drive digital transformation for organizations of all sizes and industries," Minsait's Head of Data Cloud Carlos Beldarrain said. "Together we bring competitiveness and innovation to the Spanish market with a sustainable approach, underpinned with a commitment to data sovereignty that is made possible through Minsait's expertise as a trusted technology leader in Spain."
