Mariano Belinky, now a former CEO in Banco Santander's asset management division, had his own way of announcing he has joined the equity firm Motive Partners as an industry partner.

"So this happened today," Belinky said in a Twitter post Monday, Nov. 8, that linked to Reuters' coverage of Motive Partners' announcement that he was now on board.

Belinky will be working in Motive Partners' London location on the Canary Wharf. He's expected to advance Motive Partners' goals in building, buying and investing in financial technology companies, according to a company press release. Belinky's role will include prioritizing Motive Partners' strategic value and contributing to transactions while promoting an innovative, technological touch to the company's operations.

"Based primarily from Motive Partners' London offices, Mariano will focus on originating and diligencing transactions across financial technology, seeking to spot trends ahead of time, and sourcing deals and capabilities that can support the growth of Motive's portfolio companies, ultimately benefitting the Motive investor ecosystem," Motive Partners said in the release.

Belinky previously was global CEO of Santander Asset Management where he spearheaded the company's turnaround since its re-acquisition from Warburg Pincus and General Atlantic in 2016. In other experience, he co-founded and ran InnoVentures, Santander Group's $400 million fintech-focused global venture capital fund, and he served as a junior partner with McKinsey & Company.

"Mariano's depth of expertise as an investor, operator and innovator across major financial technology areas is extremely well suited to Motive," Motive Partners Founder and Managing Partner Rob Heyvaert said in Pensions & Investments.

Belinky's successor at Santander will be that company's chairman, Victor Matarranz.
