DataStax sees new Beijing office as 'tremendous opportunity'

A Santa Clara, California-based company is set to further expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region with a new establishment and executive appointment in Beijing, China.

Chet Kapoor, chairman and CEO at DataStax, said the move would position the company to better provide services for high-demand products. The West Coast company already has locations in Japan, Australia and Singapore and a record of assisting approximately 500 of the most demanding enterprises.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for DataStax across greater China as demand for database solutions and services increase due to massive data growth from smartphones, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, electric vehicles and other data-driven applications and devices,” Kapoor said in a press release. “We are excited about our expansion in China to support the growing number of companies adopting an open data stack to improve customer experiences, deliver real-time data and drive new innovations to accelerate revenue growth.”

The news comes on the heels of the company’s objective to increase demand for global, data-garnering enterprises.

DataStax has named IT expert Tom Lu as the general manager for the region to support the expansion in China.

“I am very excited to join DataStax and help organizations in the highly data-driven region tap the power of the most scalable database on the planet combined with next-generation event streaming technology to innovate and win in this competitive market,” Lu said.

Lu has 30 years of experience in providing enterprise data solutions to businesses in greater China and previously held various leadership positions including senior vice president at GDS, Dynamics BG Lead for Microsoft China, planning director at Huawei Gauss DB and chief technology officer of Sybase China. 

China will produce more data than the United States by 2025 as it advances into new technologies such as the IoT, according to a study from International Data Corporation (IDC) and Seagate.
