In yet another strong move by meat-alternative giant Impossible Foods, the company rolled out their new plant-based pork in multiple countries in September and October.

According to the company, the product is tastier and healthier than real pork.

The pork product will first be made available in restaurants across the U.S., as well as in Hong Kong and Singapore. The company plans to offer the product in retail stores in the coming months. This will be the company's third large-scale commercial launch, following the release of their ground beef and chicken nuggets. With the move, Impossible Foods further solidifies its already strong position within the plant-based protein space.

Dennis Woodside, president of Impossible Foods, commented on the new product, saying, “Pig typically isn’t regarded as a healthy product, but here you have a substitute that tastes just as good but is actually better for you.”

According to the company, the product is mostly made from soy and provides roughly the same amount of protein as traditional pork. It also contains no cholesterol, one-third less saturated fat, and less calories than traditional pork products.

Impossible Foods is taking other measures to overcome the mental barrier that some may have when it comes to artificial meats. In a recent blind taste test conducted by the company, a majority of Hong Kong consumers said they preferred artificial pork over the real thing.

According to Woodside, that's all part of the process.

“We’re not going to launch a product unless it’s actually better than the animal analog — both in terms of taste, which that data proves, and in terms of nutritional value,” he said.
