Thermo Fisher Scientific to open new manufacturing site in Switzerland

Thermo Fisher Scientific will open a new manufacturing site in Lengnau, Switzerland, helping advance the development of large-scale biologics manufacturing.

In a recent release, Thermo Fisher said the site will become part of Thermo Fisher’s global network, welcoming approximately 200 new employees.

"Through our partnership with CSL, this site further strengthens our unique customer value proposition to leverage our scale and depth of capabilities for pharma and biotech customers,” Thermo Fisher Scientific Executive Vice President Michel Lagarde said in the release. “With the addition of new high-volume stainless-steel capabilities in Lengnau, we are enabling our customers to start their projects with us and stay with us as their manufacturing requirements grow."

The new Lengnau site will span 1.5 million square-feet for the use of highly flexible bioproduction technologies, which include single-use and stainless steel with up to 12,500L bioreactor capacity, the release states.

According to the release, has manufacturing sites in Princeton, N.J., and St. Louis, Mo., in the United States, as well Groningen, Netherlands; Brisbane, Australia; and Hangzhou, China.

Upon completing construction next year, the company will begin supporting manufacturing for CSL's next-generation recombinant factor IX product Idelvion, intended for patients with hemophilia B, the release states.
