A call center will be coming to the aid of U.S. veterans and refugees as they navigate issues associated with the sudden withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, according to a press release from the Independence Fund and Loyal Source, which says it has positioned itself to fill in gaps where needed.

Named the "Independence Line," the center will be staffed with well-trained clinicians offering assistance to Afghans now in the U.S. who served with American troops and veterans who also may be struggling to adjust to new challenges, the release said.

"With tens of thousands of Afghan men, women and children arriving in the U.S., there is a critical need to help these refugees navigate America's complex refugee and asylum systems and ensure U.S. veterans get the care and benefits they rate and need, where and when they need it," Sarah Verardo, the Independence Fund's CEO, said.

The center is expected to handle a myriad of concerns, from housing to mental health and legal assistance, prioritizing calls based on urgency but not turning anyone away.

The Independence Fund, in partnership with the Mighty Oaks Foundation, formed the Save Our Allies Coalition in August to save Afghan allies who served with U.S. troops and help American veterans where needed. As the coalition enters Phase 2, The Independence Fund partnered with Loyal Source to further assist both veterans and their allies.

The Independence Line will begin taking calls on Sept. 21, and can be contacted toll free at 1-855-341-5456.
