Google is making some changes to become more efficient and grow the company's business.

The changes are being made in the engineering unit to gain market share more quickly.

"We have an enormous opportunity to continue to grow the business by expanding our total addressable market in new ways," Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said in an email to staff, according to an article by CNBC. "As the market changes, the needs of our products continue to evolve, and it’s important that we evolve our organization to support this growth."

Brad Calder is now set to oversee the engineering division, according to CNBC.

He is replacing Eyal Manor who has been at Google for about 15 years and has led engineering and key Cloud products including Anthos for five years, CNBC reported.

At 10% market share, Google trails behind industry leaders Amazon (at 33%) and Microsoft (at 20%), CNBC reported.

Calder joined Google Cloud in 2015.

"With 15 plus years of experience in Cloud, Brad has the proven expertise to take on a broader role to shape and drive the entire strategy," for Google Cloud, Kurian wrote.
