A $13.7 million gift from the Innova Medical Group will help to launch a global pandemic center in Liverpool, England, according to a press release.
The Pandemic Institute now has the startup capital it needs, combined with financial backing of organizations like The University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University. The institute's goal will be to turn research into policies that will help reduce the impact of this and future pandemics.
"The Innova team is passionate about supporting projects that will make a difference, and it is clear now that pandemics are one of the biggest threats to the health of the world's population," Daniel Elliott, CEO and president of Innova Medical Group, said in the release.
The center will be located in The Spine in Liverpool, a building focused on creating the best working environments for overall health through innovation, KQ Liverpool reported.
"It's a really exciting initiative for us to be supporting the city's academic and business institutions with an ambition toward end-to-end solutions that can be applied on a global scale," Elliott said. "We look forward to working collaboratively with the institute's existing and future partners in pursuit of that combined goal."
With high hopes of revolutionizing how the world responds to pandemics, the Pandemic Institute will draw from academic resources, global connections and more to find solutions through research, clinical and policy expertise, the press release said.
