Virtusa Corporation, a global provider of digital strategy, digital engineering and IT services and solutions, recently confirmed plans to expand its operations to the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), a business development agency, is working closely with Virtusa to expand its operations in Canada while creating high-value jobs for Nova Scotians in the country's information and communications technology (ICT) sector, Virtusa said in a release.
“Virtusa is proud to be expanding into Nova Scotia, which is home to a booming technology hub and a talented and innovative workforce,” Sanjay Deshpande, Virtusa EVP and head of banking and financial services for the Americas, said. “We are truly thankful for our partnership with NSBI, which has played a vital role in helping us identify Halifax as an ideal location to expand our Canadian presence.”
Based in Southborough, MA, Virtusa will add Halifax, Nova Scotia to its two existing Canadian locations in Toronto and Montreal.
“Now we will be equipped to effectively meet the information technology needs of businesses across all of Canada,” Deshpande said.
Virtusa assists Canadian businesses with digital and cloud transformation, technology modernization and business innovation. Its Halifax location increases its accessibility to North America and Europe in providing these services.
To prospective employees it offers comprehensive training programs for new staff members as well as leadership, mentorship and diversity and inclusion programs. It also offers a summer internship program for university students.
Virtusa boasts a global payroll of over 28,000, the company said in the release. It offers its services throughout the private, public and academic sectors.
“Virtusa is making a smart, strategic bet investing in Nova Scotian talent to advance its North American talent base for the rapidly emerging virtual economy,” Phil Fersht, founder, CEO and chief analyst for business analysis firm HFS Research, said in the release. “Having advised the region for many years, I have been so impressed with its widespread university environment and its ability to attract talent both locally and from all over the world."
