Thrasio, a business acquisition and expansion company, has hired former Amazon executive Georg Hesse as VP for the UK and Germany to advance its position in the European market, the company said in a release.
The hiring of Hesse comes on the heels of the company’s pledge in December 2020 to invest €500M in the region, the company said. Thrasio, a global acquirer of Amazon brands, is confident that Hesse will strengthen its drive in Europe after the company's recent acquisitions, including Pat your Pet, one of Amazon's top pet-grooming brands, and Liebfeld, an emerging kitchen appliance company from Germany, the company said.
Thrasio President Danny Boockvar said that Hesse would facilitate the company’s European business strategy.
“Georg's experience in helping build the Amazon ecosystem in Europe will be invaluable as we accelerate international growth for our current and future brands,” he said.
Hesse previously worked for Amazon in Europe for 16 years, including as group director in Germany.
“He was part of Amazon DE's founding team — he knows what it takes to make brands successful on Amazon in Europe and drive growth across all of our core categories, so we know he will help us offer great exits and earn outs for European sellers,” Boockvar said. “We're excited to have Georg at the helm in such an important region for us globally.
Thrasio was founded with an idea to accumulate Amazon native brands, and it has grown to encompass 1,300 employees around the world, the company said.
"There's no question that Europe is crucial to our global growth, especially the UK and German markets, which alone make up over 20% of the world's larger Amazon Private Label Sellers," co-founder and co-CEO Carlos Cashman said in the release. "We have great momentum and a first mover advantage around the world. This appointment is our commitment to the strategic importance of Europe."
Founded in 2018, Thrasio has its corporate headquarters in New York City.
