The United States has started a safeguard investigation concerning imports of quartz surface products. According to the official notification, Alejandro Orozco at the Office of Investigations, U.S. International Trade Commission, is listed as the contact for this process.

"The point of contact for the investigation is:

Alejandro Orozco Office of Investigations U.S. International Trade Commission 500 E Street, SW Washington, DC 20436

Tel: (202-205-3177)

[.]

Persons wishing to participate in the investigation as parties must file an entry of appearance with the Secretary to the Commission not later than 21 days after publication of the notice of institution in the Federal Register."

The notice also explains that a safeguard investigation determines if increased imports are causing or threatening serious injury to a domestic industry. During such investigations, importers, exporters, and other interested groups can submit evidence and respond to others’ submissions.

A member of the World Trade Organization may only impose temporary restrictions on imports—known as safeguard actions—if it finds that rising imports are causing or threatening serious harm to its domestic industry.

The notification regarding this case is available in document G/SG/N/6/USA/15.
