Amazon, through its Amazon Web Services (AWS) unit, has announced a partnership with Aeroporti di Roma and Storm Reply to introduce an AI-powered virtual assistant at Rome's Fiumicino Airport. This initiative aims to provide real-time updates, baggage tracking, and personalized support for travelers.

According to Amazon’s official press release, the Virtual Assistant was developed in collaboration with AWS and Storm Reply to enhance passenger engagement at Fiumicino Airport. The assistant utilizes AWS’s generative AI and Amazon Bedrock, allowing travelers to access real-time flight information, baggage updates, and airport services via WhatsApp or the ADR website. This marks a significant digital transformation milestone for Aeroporti di Roma by integrating Italian hospitality with advanced AI technology.

Amazon states that the Virtual Assistant employs AWS’s Generative AI Innovation Center to offer a secure and multilingual digital companion capable of handling complex queries in real time. The system uses a multi-agent architecture to ensure high-quality, data-protected responses for millions of passengers annually. Aeroporti di Roma notes that Fiumicino Airport serves approximately 50 million travelers each year and has been recognized by ACI Europe as the "Best European Airport" seven times since 2018.

Forbes reports that AI adoption in the aviation sector is expected to surpass USD 3.9 billion by 2030 due to increasing demand for personalized and efficient passenger experiences. This aligns with AWS Vice President Julien Groues's statement that Aeroporti di Roma’s Virtual Assistant demonstrates how generative AI can significantly transform travel journeys. By combining ADR’s traveler expertise with AWS’s AI technology and Storm Reply’s integration capabilities, this partnership sets a new standard for digital innovation in global aviation.
