Carlos Felipe Jaramillo has been appointed as the new Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region at the World Bank Group, effective September 15, 2025. He will be based in Singapore, which is now established as the regional hub for EAP operations as part of the World Bank’s efforts to decentralize and improve service delivery.
Jaramillo will oversee partnerships with 23 countries in the region and manage a portfolio valued at over US$32 billion. His appointment comes after more than twenty years of leadership experience within the World Bank across various regions and global practices.
In his statement, Jaramillo said: "East Asia and the Pacific remains a global engine of growth, technology and innovation, providing development insights for other countries. I'm committed to working with our partners, including on energy, human capital development, and digitalization, to create stronger impact—ensuring more jobs and thriving communities for all."
Previously, Jaramillo served as Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean since 2020. In that role he led engagement with 31 countries and managed ongoing operations worth US$41.5 billion. Earlier in his career at the Bank, he was Division Director overseeing Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda with responsibility for over 80 projects totaling more than US$12 billion. He also led work in Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice.
Before joining the World Bank Group, Jaramillo held senior positions within Colombia’s government. He holds both an M.A. and Ph.D. in development economics from Stanford University.
