The United States government has provided 33,600 JYNNEOS vaccine doses to Malawi in an effort to curb the spread of mpox. The donation aims to help Malawi's health authorities improve their response to the ongoing outbreak.
The U.S. Embassy in Malawi has been working with local partners to boost laboratory testing, case management, and disease surveillance. A rapid response team from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is collaborating with the Public Health Institute of Malawi on risk communication, infection prevention and control measures, and engaging communities about mpox.
In a statement, the U.S. Embassy recognized the support of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) for managing logistics related to vaccine implementation. "The U.S. government and U.S. Embassy will continue to partner with Malawi to prevent and respond to outbreaks that place the Malawian people and the global community at risk," according to the embassy.
This recent shipment reflects ongoing efforts by both countries and international organizations to address public health emergencies in Malawi.
