The World Bank Group has issued a warning regarding the misuse of its name and logo in connection with an alleged National Opinion Poll Report about Malawi’s upcoming elections. The poll, which is being circulated online, claims to be published by an entity called the ‘Center for Public Opinion and Policy.’ The World Bank Group stated that it is not associated with this poll or the organization behind it.
According to the statement, “The World Bank is an apolitical organization and does not comment on elections or engage in political activities.”
The organization emphasized that it has no involvement in this poll and urged members of the public to remain cautious about similar schemes that falsely claim affiliation with the World Bank Group.
The International Development Association (IDA), part of the World Bank, provides grants and low- to zero-interest loans aimed at supporting economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving lives in some of the world’s poorest countries. Since its establishment in 1960, IDA has delivered $496 billion to 114 countries. Over the last three years (FY20-FY22), annual commitments have averaged about $34.7 billion, with roughly 70 percent allocated to Africa. More information can be found at https://ida.worldbank.org/.
