U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Moore Aubin and Algeria's Minister of Energy Mohamed Arkab have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster cooperation on climate action and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, with a particular focus on methane. The agreement was made on behalf of the United States Department of State and Algeria's Ministry of Energy.

Methane is recognized as a potent greenhouse gas, ranking as the second largest contributor to climate warming. Through this MOU, both nations aim to address methane and other greenhouse gas emissions by identifying emission sources, sharing information and technology, and encouraging collaboration among government agencies, academic institutions, research centers, and private companies.

Ambassador Aubin expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership: “I am proud that Algeria and the United States will be working together to take environmental stewardship to the next level.”

This agreement signifies an ongoing commitment to scientific and technical collaboration between the two countries while underscoring their mutual goal of mitigating climate change.
