Siemens Mobility has delivered the first Vectron MS locomotive to Rail Traction Company (RTC) S.p.A. during the Transport Logistic exhibition in Munich. The event was attended by Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian State Minister for Housing, Construction and Transport, along with executives from Siemens Mobility and RTC S.p.A.

The delivery is part of two contracts totaling six locomotives. RTC S.p.A. will receive four Vectron MS units, while its partner InRail S.p.A. will receive two. This development strengthens both companies' positions in European freight transport services.

Karl Blaim, Managing Director of Siemens Mobility, stated: “We are delighted to support RTC with our cutting-edge Vectron MS locomotive, which is renowned for its versatility and efficiency in meeting the growing demands of European cross-border rail freight.” He added that the locomotive offers seamless transitions across different countries.

Martin Ausserdorfer, CEO at RTC S.p.A., emphasized the importance of these locomotives for strengthening rail interoperability across Europe: "The investment in these locomotives is part of a long-term vision aimed at strengthening rail interoperability and overcoming infrastructure barriers between European countries.”

Guido Porta, CEO of InRail S.p.A., highlighted the significance of this acquisition: "Six years after celebrating InRail’s tenth anniversary, we are proud to mark another important milestone: the union with RTC and the acquisition of six interoperable Siemens locomotives."

Christian Bernreiter remarked on Bavaria's role in advancing transport across the Alps: "I am pleased that locomotives from Bavaria are now further advancing the transport of goods across the Alps!"

The Vectron MS locomotives have a maximum power output of 6.4 megawatts and can reach speeds up to 160 km/h. They are suitable for use in several European countries including Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Poland, among others. The acquisition includes maintenance services through Railigent X.

Siemens Mobility has sold over 2,700 Vectron family locomotives to 104 customers globally.
