Nicole D. Theriot, Ambassador | U.S. Embassy in Guyana

Ambassador Nicole D. Theriot recently addressed an International Business Conference, emphasizing the importance of U.S.-Guyana collaboration. In her remarks, she highlighted the United States as Guyana's largest source of foreign direct investment and a key trading partner. Theriot noted, "Our commercial engagement in Guyana has transformed the business sector."

The ambassador stressed the significance of connecting private sectors to strengthen bilateral economic relations. She mentioned the role of the U.S. Department of Commerce office in Georgetown, led by Senior Commercial Officer Daniel Gaines, stating, "If you are a U.S. investor interested in Guyana, Daniel is the man you want to know!"

Theriot acknowledged the contributions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), pointing out that over 3,000 U.S. SMEs exported to Guyana last year. She expressed optimism about future exports from diversified Guyanese companies to the United States.

Highlighting human resources development, Theriot praised U.S. companies for training and developing Guyana's workforce across various sectors including energy and hospitality. She invited U.S. businesses to explore franchising opportunities in Guyana’s non-oil sectors.

Theriot also discussed regional cooperation within CARICOM and emphasized energy security through initiatives like Gas to Energy, which will enable Guyana to export surplus natural gas products throughout the Caribbean.

Addressing infrastructure improvements, Theriot remarked on ongoing projects aimed at enhancing transport connections with Brazil and Suriname, which are expected to make Guyana more competitive.

Concluding her remarks, Ambassador Theriot encouraged patience and engagement from U.S. companies looking to invest in Guyana and its neighboring countries.
