The U.S. Embassy in Bogota has issued a notice regarding potential delays in immigration services at Colombian airports due to a protest named "Operacion Tortuga." The protest is expected to begin on Friday, May 9, and may lead to significant disruptions for travelers entering and exiting Colombia.
Travelers planning to leave Colombia are advised to arrive at airports well ahead of their departure times. Those traveling to Colombia should also be prepared for potentially lengthy delays at customs and immigration.
"Migracion Colombia has sole authority to decide who may enter or exit Colombia," the embassy stated, emphasizing that it cannot intervene in decisions made by immigration authorities.
The embassy recommends several actions for travelers: comply with local regulations, maintain vigilance in public areas, monitor local media for updates, and plan for travel delays.
For assistance, travelers can contact the U.S. Embassy in Bogota at +57-1-275-2000 or 601-275-2000 or via email at acsbogota@state.gov. Additional resources include the U.S. Consular Agency in Barranquilla and the U.S. Department of State – Consular Affairs.
Travelers are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for security updates and follow the embassy's social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
