Major General Jasper Jeffers, Chairman of the Cessation of Hostilities Implementation Mechanism, recently met with Lebanese and UNIFIL leadership in Beirut. He was accompanied by Major General Michael Leeney, who is joining the Mechanism as a full-time senior U.S. military leader in Beirut. This move seeks to bolster the strong relationship between the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the U.S. military.
Major General Leeney expressed his enthusiasm about the role, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this important mission and am very optimistic for the future. The LAF is well known as a capable force and my meetings have shown just how dedicated they are to ensuring peace and stability.”
In his new position, Major General Leeney will collaborate closely with the LAF, UNIFIL, France, and the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon. The aim is to support the LAF in securing the country and protecting Lebanese sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Major General Jeffers will maintain his involvement in Lebanon while continuing his duties as the commander of U.S. Special Operations forces in the Levant, Arabian Gulf, and Central Asia.
