The U.S. Embassy in Colombia has issued a statement regarding the monitoring of nationwide marches and demonstrations scheduled for May 1, 2025. These events are expected to take place across various cities in Colombia, including Barranquilla, Bogota, Cali, and Cartagena.
In Barranquilla, the demonstration will commence at Carrera 4 and Calle 45, proceeding to El Carmen field starting at 8:00 am. In Bogota, activities are set to begin at Parque Nacional and the National University, marching towards Plaza de Bolívar, as well as several neighborhoods around downtown, with an 8:00 am start. The embassy has alerted commuters to anticipate significant traffic disruptions along these routes.
Cali's demonstration will commence at Parque del Barrio Obrero at 9:00 am, while in Cartagena, the march will start in the 4 Vientos area, moving towards the Amparo service station beginning at 7:00 am. The embassy has noted that demonstrations may also occur in other cities, though details are currently unavailable.
The U.S. Embassy has warned that even peaceful demonstrations carry the risk of turning violent without warning. U.S. citizens are advised to avoid areas surrounding demonstrations due to potential traffic delays and are urged to exercise caution around large crowds.
Actions recommended by the Embassy include avoiding protest areas, staying away from crowds and demonstrations, monitoring local media and Embassy social media for updates, exercising vigilance, staying aware of surroundings, and planning for alternative travel routes.
