The World Trade Organization (WTO) recently conducted a Trade Policy Review (TPR) for Sierra Leone. These reviews are mandated under WTO agreements and involve an examination of members' trade policies to assess developments that may impact the global trading system. The frequency of these reviews depends on the size of the country under review.
Two key documents were the focus of this review. A detailed report was produced independently by the WTO Secretariat. This report was made available alongside a policy statement from the Sierra Leone government, providing insights into the country’s trade strategies and priorities.
All documents were discussed in-depth by the WTO’s full membership, meeting under the Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB). The final review session culminated in concluding remarks from the chairperson, which were scheduled for release the day of the second meeting.
Trade Policy Reviews are crucial mechanisms through which member countries such as Sierra Leone receive feedback on their trade-related policies, ensuring alignment with global standards and highlighting areas requiring improvement or change.
