President Donald J. Trump and President Vladimir Putin held a conversation focused on the Ukraine war, emphasizing the need for peace and a ceasefire. Both leaders agreed that ending the conflict with lasting peace is crucial and highlighted the importance of improving bilateral relations between the United States and Russia.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, "The blood and treasure that both Ukraine and Russia have been spending in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people." The leaders concurred that the conflict should have concluded long ago through sincere peace efforts.

An initial step towards peace will involve an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, along with technical negotiations for a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea. These discussions are set to begin immediately in the Middle East.

Trump and Putin also discussed potential cooperation in the Middle East to prevent future conflicts. They addressed stopping strategic weapons proliferation, expressing shared concerns about Iran's capability regarding Israel's security.

Both presidents see significant potential in enhancing U.S.-Russia relations, envisioning economic opportunities and geopolitical stability once peace is achieved.
