Vice Admiral Anderson, Minister of Defense Palmas, Lieutenant General Tsitsikostas, and other distinguished guests gathered aboard the USS Mount Whitney to celebrate the defense partnership between Cyprus and the United States. Ambassador Davis expressed gratitude for the support from various sectors in enhancing U.S. naval activities and ensuring regional security.

The event highlighted the strengthening relationship between Cyprus and the U.S., built on agreements like the 2018 Joint Statement of Intent and the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act of 2019. These initiatives have laid a foundation for bilateral defense efforts.

Ambassador Davis acknowledged Cyprus' role in aiding evacuations during crises, such as assisting Americans from Sudan two years ago and more recently after attacks by Hamas against Israel in October 2023. The increased naval presence in the Eastern Mediterranean aims to counter threats from groups like Hamas, Hizballah, Houthis, and Iran.

Task Force 406's involvement was crucial in coordinating evacuation plans from Lebanon last fall. Their efforts ensured that international partners could effectively manage noncombatant evacuations.

President Christodoulides has positioned Cyprus as a stable ally, facilitating humanitarian aid through initiatives like the Amalthea plan. The State Partnership Program with New Jersey's National Guard is fostering skills exchange in areas such as medical care and cyber resilience.

Defense leaders from both nations are planning future cooperation over five years, focusing on disaster response and military interoperability. Cyprus’ eligibility for Foreign Military Sales will further enhance collaboration with American forces.

This partnership underscores shared values across administrations, aiming to address regional threats collaboratively. Ambassador Davis concluded by thanking all involved for their continued cooperation.
