Demonstrations are anticipated in Merida, Mexico, on March 8, 2025. The protests are expected to commence around 5:00 p.m. in the Centro area. Previous demonstrations have attracted large crowds and resulted in vandalism of monuments and property. U.S. Government personnel have been advised to avoid the Paseo de Montejo area, particularly near the Monumento a la Patria and the governor’s palace, during the afternoon and evening.

U.S. citizens are cautioned against participating in demonstrations that could be perceived as political by authorities. Mexican law prohibits political activities by foreign nationals, and involvement may lead to detention or deportation.

To ensure safety, individuals are encouraged to steer clear of areas where protests occur, monitor local media for updates, adhere to instructions from local authorities, and contact emergency services if necessary.

For assistance, U.S. citizens can use the contact form available through U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico or reach out via phone numbers provided for both local and international calls.
