Ambassador Claire Pierangelo and Madagascar's Minister of Industry and Trade, David Ralambofiringa, met on February 27 to address several key economic topics. Their discussions centered around the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and its impact on enhancing U.S.-Madagascar economic relations, particularly in the textile and vanilla industries.

The meeting also highlighted the role of Base Toliara, a U.S.-owned company, in contributing to the economic and social development of southern Madagascar. The officials emphasized the need for a fair, transparent, and market-based business environment to encourage both domestic and international investments.

"This vital U.S.-Malagasy collaboration on trade and investment promotes greater prosperity for both of our countries," was noted during their discussions.
