U.S. Navy Admiral Alvin Holsey, the Commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), is scheduled to visit Panama on February 19 and 20. The visit aims to strengthen cooperation with Panamanian leaders and address regional challenges.

This will be Adm. Holsey's first visit to Panama since he took command of SOUTHCOM in November 2024. Panama is regarded as one of the United States' most significant strategic allies in the region, with a partnership rooted in democratic principles.

During his stay, Adm. Holsey plans to meet with key figures such as Panama’s Minister of Security Frank Ábrego and Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez. Discussions will focus on the U.S.-Panama security partnership and other topics, including safeguarding the Canal area from Chinese Communist Party influence and collaborative efforts to resolve the illegal migration crisis in the region.

Additionally, Adm. Holsey is expected to engage with Dr. Ricaurte Vásquez Morales, the Administrator of the Panama Canal, to discuss its strategic importance and potential areas for mutual cooperation.
