The Frankfurt financial centre has issued a call to action for citizens to participate in the upcoming Bundestag elections on February 23. The joint appeal, published on Saturday, emphasizes the importance of diversity and openness as key components of the financial centre's identity and success.
Fourteen institutions have signed this initiative, including KfW, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Börse, Deutsche Bundesbank, DZ Bank, Fidelity, Frankfurter Sparkasse, Frankfurt Main Finance, Helaba, ING, Bankhaus Metzler, Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft, and Union Investment.
The initiative is titled "Democracy needs one thing above all: YOU." It aims to promote the acceptance of a free and democratic order while advocating for a strong and tolerant society.
In their statement, the Frankfurt financial centre representatives express their commitment to the German federal elections of 2025. They highlight that as a hub with nearly 300 financial service providers and over 70,000 employees in Germany's heartland, they are concerned about the country's economic and structural challenges. The elections are deemed crucial for shaping Germany's future direction as a business location.
"Every vote cast counts and is vital for upholding acceptance of the liberal democratic basic order and ensuring that Germany remains a strong, tolerant and open country," reads part of the appeal. It stresses that only those who choose to vote can influence future outcomes.
The appeal concludes with a call to action: "Give Germany and German democracy a strong voice: Your voice."
