The Philippines has initiated a safeguard investigation concerning the importation of corrugating medium. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is seeking input from interested parties on whether implementing a safeguard measure would serve the public interest. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their comments and positions to the Bureau of Import Services, either physically at their Makati City office or electronically via email, within five days following the publication of this notice.
A safeguard investigation aims to assess if increased imports of a specific product are causing or threatening serious harm to local industries. During this process, various stakeholders including importers and exporters can present evidence and opinions, as well as respond to others' submissions.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) allows member countries to impose temporary restrictions on imports if it is determined that such imports are indeed causing or threatening significant injury to domestic industries.
Further details regarding this investigation can be found in document G/SG/N/6/PHL/22.
