In anticipation of the upcoming U.S. elections in November 2020, overseas American citizens are being reminded to complete and submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to participate as absentee voters. This requirement applies to both first-time voters and those who have previously voted absentee.
The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia, has facilitated the process by allowing citizens to drop off their completed FPCA forms at the Consular Access gate during regular working hours. Upon submission, individuals must present a valid photo ID and wait for their envelope to be scanned before leaving. These forms will then be sent to the United States through diplomatic channels.
To ensure proper processing, citizens should follow these steps: download and fill out an FPCA form from https://www.fvap.gov/eo/overview/materials/forms, sign and date it, fold page two into an envelope with U.S. postage covered if used as such, and finally drop it off at the embassy's designated area.
Once submitted, it is advisable for voters to contact their state election officials after a few weeks to confirm receipt of their FPCA form and obtain information on receiving their absentee ballot for the November elections.
Further instructions on submitting absentee ballots at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade will be communicated via the embassy's website and Mascot messages soon.
For those researching candidates and issues ahead of voting, online resources are available through the FVAP links page. Non-partisan information about candidates' records and positions can be accessed easily online. Voters can also subscribe to FVAP’s Voting Alerts or follow them on social media platforms like Facebook (@DODFVAP), Twitter (@FVAP), and Instagram (@fvapgov) for updates on election dates and deadlines.
Additional details can be found on the Federal Voting Assistance Program’s website at FVAP.gov. For inquiries about overseas voter registration, individuals can reach out via email at BelgradeACS@state.gov.
