Siemens Mobility, in partnership with Leonhard Weiss, has secured a significant contract from Deutsche Bahn for modernizing control and safety technology within Germany's rail network. Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, expressed pride in winning the contract alongside Leonhard Weiss. He stated that "as the global market leader and as part of this new agreement, we will provide the digital control and safety technology needed for the modernization of Germany’s rail network."
Peter highlighted that this new award and contract model signifies a paradigm shift for the rail industry by enabling necessary resource development for modernization. The optimized interfaces within the contract are expected to make implementation more efficient.
Marcus Herwarth, CEO of Track Infrastructure Construction at Leonhard Weiss, emphasized Deutsche Bahn's confidence in their expertise. He remarked on their motivation and respect for this major project: “The volume contract underscores Deutsche Bahn’s confidence in the expertise and performance of Leonhard Weiss and Siemens Mobility."
This is Deutsche Bahn's first volume contract which marks a shift from multiple individual contracts to a single long-term agreement. This approach allows partners like Siemens Mobility and Leonhard Weiss to fulfill defined order volumes while DB commits to call-off quantities over time.
The advantages include developing platform solutions with standard interfaces and building necessary resources more reliably. Processes such as ordering, planning, construction, and commissioning are expected to be significantly shortened from eight years to just a few years.
In addition to Siemens Mobility and Leonhard Weiss, other companies in the railway industry have shares in implementing this volume contract.
