Siemens Mobility has announced the delivery of an additional 30 Mireo commuter trains to ÖBB, furthering their collaboration in modernizing rail transport in Austria. This latest addition brings the total number of Mireo trains provided to ÖBB to 100.
Andre Rodenbeck, CEO Rolling Stock Siemens Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership: "We are delighted to be supporting ÖBB with now 100 Mireo trains in its program to modernize local and regional rail transport in Austria. Our popular and reliable Mireo trains, of which Siemens Mobility has already sold over 550 trains for 23 fleets, combine high cost-effectiveness and increased fleet efficiency with modern functionalities and a high level of comfort and convenience. Their design contributes to a pleasant travel experience and ultimately satisfied passengers."
The Mireo multiple-unit trains are electrically powered and designed for economical operation while ensuring passenger comfort. Capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h, these trains will serve routes in Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. They are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).
Features aimed at enhancing passenger experience include air conditioning, WLAN service, barrier-free entrances, power sockets, racks for skis and snowboards, space for baby carriages and wheelchairs in boarding areas, as well as ample room for bicycles. The new ÖBB trains will also have wider cars than previous generations based on a single-car train concept.
